Advancing Global Health and Sustainability: How Clean Cook Stoves Are Changing Lives and Combating Climate Change.
Biofuel-Powered Cook Stoves: A Sustainable Solution for Cleaner Cooking and Reduced Emissions.
Harnessing Bioenergy: Transforming Organic Waste into Clean, Green Power.
At Virgin Green Renewable Energy (VGRE) we repurpose locally sourced biomass waste and waste metals to manufacture clean solid fuels (charcoal briquettes) and improved, efficient, and reliable cook-stoves respectively. Through the process of carbonizing biomass wastes for briquette production, we have also launched another product called wood vinegar (liquid smoke). We then sale these three products by partnering with local women business owners to distribute to the last mile (customers). Since 2021, we have sold over 300 tonnes of briquettes and over 10,000 clean cook-stoves in Zambia, enabling our customers to save $200 per year in fuel costs while our distributors (sales agents)are able to generate over $1000 annually to improve their small businesses. Our work has impacted the lives of over 100,000 people who now benefit from cleaner air within their homes while avoiding over 30,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, by using Wood Vinegar as a Pesticide Control and as organic fertilizers farmers are able to avoid post harvest loss due to pests by over 40% and contribute to soil fertility and restoration by over 60%.
Explore MoreBurning solid fuels such as charcoal and agricultural waste in open fires and traditional stoves exposes families to air pollution levels as much as 50 times greater than the WHO guidelines for clean air. In Africa, over 1 million deaths are attributed to household air pollution every year and the numbers just keep rising, women and children are the most affected since they spend most of their time cooking with dirty fuels and inefficient stoves. The virtues of replacing dirty fuels and traditional stoves with clean alternative fuels and improved cook-stoves are well documented, from reducing exposure to hazardous air pollutants, lowering burns risk in children under the age of five, reducing fuel consumption costs and even cooking time. However, affordability and accessibility of clean and affordable cooking products remain two of the primary barriers to adoption at scale and millions of households still persist with unsustainable methods.
